Eugene's online

As the title states, I'm finally on this blog. Posts are bound to come in with regards to the logistics of black lights, be it sponsorship updates or band applications. The forms are all done and can actually be sent out already though.

Hui Min, as the 2nd In Charge of the Logisitics Committee, will be helping me with the sponsorship details, I'm handling the bands and booking of rooms as such, which reminds me - I have to get Mr Kao to book the Mozart room. Lets hope this post reminds me to ask him the next time I see him. I'll come up with a list of possible dates and times. And yes I also need a panel of judges to judge bands and give constructive feedback.

Ah well that's all for the introduction post, but yes we're moving on. I'M GOING TO HOLD A MEETING SOON! Be excited.

Eugene.

Super Nova.

Hey, sorry for the lack of updates once again, but everything has been horribly busy, with tests and such, but more importantly, we were busy with Black Lights. You should be pleased to know that production has started again and its gearing towards full speed, slowed down only by the regular homework that the teachers like piling up on us. Anyway, we had about two meetings since the last update, and here's the lowdown of what is being said and done.
  • Sponsorship
  • Professional Bands
  • Advertisements
  • Merchandise (A Possibility)
  • Band Participation Forms

Anyway, just to remind you guys, Black Lights is a competition where school rock bands come together to compete, punctuated by regular perfomances by the professionals, and the winner of the event ultimately earns fame (no fortune here, sorry kids), in front of an estimated 800 people. So if you have any friends who have their own bands, or if you have your own band, try this event out, might just be you, or their biggest thing that they need.

Thanks for the help you all have been giving, site stats look good, keep it up, I'll try to update as frequently as possible, hopefully one per meeting.

Banners? Yes? No?

I apologise for the lack of updates on behalf of the TASC, but as many of you TA students should know, it has been one hell of a two weeks (includiing the holidays) and it's quite impossible to get things done, thus production has slowed to a crawl. But for those of you who have been checking back in hopes of an update of sorts, here it is, production is starting to pick up again, though there have been problems along the way, things should start running smoothly in about a week's time.

Anyways, I need help from you guys in terms of promotion, help to pass the word and stuff alright? It would be a great help and a load off the propaganda team, which are in a collision course for hell, judging by their work load. Banners and stuff should be up early April, but I think it would be cool if you guys suggested what the banners should look like. Right now I'm imagining stars, but what do you guys (okay, fine, and girls) think?

Hope to update soon again.

Opinions Wanted.

There has been alot of questions as to what Black Lights really is, to sum it up in a nutshell, its a concert event that is due to be held in Temasek Junior College in the month of July, it is open to all secondary students island wide and we would be selling tickets. The concert would be competition based, with school rock bands and singers coming from all round the country to compete, and having professional bands perfom, all in the name of rock and music. Budding singers and rock bands, preferably secondary school bands, can keep their eyes peeled on this event for now. More details to be confirmed as we go on.

Anyway, there was a second meeting today, though with a small group of councillors, here are some pictures for you all to see.

Logistics Commitee : Yee Chuin (I/C), Hui Min, Eugene, Aishah

Propaganda Commitee : Kerry (I/C), Vishi, Valerie, Woon Yee, Syakirah

A totally senseless picture on my part, but this wasn't drawn by me but instead by Johnathan, the original name for Black Lights was 'G-String' so all of you can now erh, admire his work on the drawing. For obvious reasons we discarded that name, though I thought the drawings had some style to them. Anyway, that's all for the picture whoring, for now, I need opinions, how much would you guys pay to enter Black Lights? Five Dollars, Seven Fifty or Ten Dollars?

There would be door gifts, food, drinks, bands and professional bands; do keep in mind your friends might be the one competiting on stage, so do choose wisely, feedback would be very much appreciated. Just leave your comments and we'll review the ticket pricing again, and oh yes, do help us promote this event to all your friends, thanks once again.

We Have Lift Off.

This blog would serve as a form of update to the rest of the world who would like to see the progress of this event (which would run all the way to July), and this blog would mainly be updated by Lester (me), Jonathan and Kerry, the rest of the SC would be making short appearances I suppose, but its mainly the three of us for now. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions, we’ll be reading, and for all you know, you could be a part of this event.

The first entry didn’t serve much as an introduction to what is now termed as ‘Black Lights’, it used to be called ‘Fun Night’, but truthfully speaking, that night was not all that fun anyway, we lost focal point and we tried to accomplish too much with too little time. Apparently it flopped like there was no tomorrow, hell; it failed so bad that it was… Well, you get the idea. Anyway, this year’s spiritual successor to last year’s Fun Night will be known as Black Lights; now, before anyone of you start commenting that it’s a lame assed name, do note that we have put in quite some thought into the name, and it blends in quite well with the general idea of the whole event and it makes publicity (or propaganda, like how we like to term it) much sleeker. Trust me on this, Black Lights, however lame it might seem to you on paper is kickass once it’s applied and executed.

Moving on, we had the first meeting today, we pretty much drew the skeletal outline of what you can expect from this event, and I would say it’s much better than last year’s fluke. We have finalized our goals and our focal points, so at least now the crowd and people wouldn’t be spread out too thin. As of speaking right now, we’re talking about a rock band/dance/sing competition cum concert, we don’t know how well it would work, but then again, its still being outlined and it has only been the first meeting, so I suppose the next meeting would flesh out everything that we have. We split our SC into different committees, namely Logistics and Propaganda (pretty sweet name for ‘publicity’), with Yee Chuin and Kerry respectively at helm. To add on onto today’s meeting, Jonathan was having an argument with the rest of the council on the would-be stage layout (more on that once we have more than skeletal outlines), and he still wouldn’t let it rest, but I have more or less agreed to having his plans as a back up in case we screw it up (which wouldn’t happen).

To move on, unlike last year, Black Lights would be an island-wide event, we are trying to get as much people as possible, selling tickets this time, in a nutshell; the propaganda com is going to have one hell of a time getting people over. Just imagine every secondary school student talking about this event; sure, it’s ambitious, but if we pull it off, it’s going to be pretty sweet if you ask me.

It’s going to be big, I know it.
